Difference between essential and branched amino acids Let's start by saying that branched amino acids are also essential amino acids, this is because they are part of the 8 amino acids that are very important for the body's health but that our body cannot synthesize on its own and must acquire them through food. Molecularly speaking, essential amino acids (Essentials Amino Acid - EAA) are quite similar to branched amino acids, except for a laterally placed "chain" structure that the latter have and from which they get their name, branched chain amino acids (BCAA).
